If we could calculate the sum total footprint of all our addictions we may be astounded by the figure...
Our behaviour is shaped in part by a mayriad addictions implanted in us through the 'spectacle'. Be they conscious or subconscious they are ways we're offered to fit into a group, cover personal issues, get a sense of belonging or most often fill a void left in us by a society that starves us from the essential nutrients of social life. These addictions often lead to self-harming behaviours.
We need a comprehensive approach to tackle this. This already includes many charitable education campaigns, policies to regulate products and promote sustainable consumption but they all target different symptoms from a larger issue.
We are much easier to manipulate than we think, unaware of the ways in which our biases are exploited.
